Personal Development (Passion and Ambition)
What is Personal Development?
Personal development is a phrase that refers to activities designed to improve talents, learning potential, employability, and even wealth. Any time you are consciously making an effort to improve yourself, you are participating in personal development.
Personal development is a lifelong process. It is a way for people to assess their skills and qualities, consider their aims in life, and set goals in order to realize and maximize their potential.
Personal Development helps you to identify the skills you need to set life goals that can enhance your employability prospects, raise your confidence, and lead to a more fulfilling, higher quality life. Plan to make relevant, positive, and effective life choices and decisions for your future to enable personal empowerment.
Personal Development has 5 aspects:
- Mental
- Spiritual
- Physical
- Social
- Emotional
Mental
-The first of the five areas of personal development is all about growing your mind. You can partake in many mental personal development activities.
Some examples are taking a class, reading a book, or watching an informational YouTube video to improve your skills. By setting aside some time each day, or each week, you can see growth in your career, increased productivity, and so much more. My favorite activities to do in this personal development category are reading books on my industry and listening to podcasts.
Spiritual
-Spiritual personal development can mean something different for each person. The best way that I know how to describe it is anything that brings you peace and helps you connect to your true self.
The activities that fall under this category can be anything from spending time in prayer and reading your Bible, to taking a nature walk or meditating.
Physical
-Physical personal development is about a lot more than exercise.
You’ll also want to consider eating and sleeping habits, to name a few, to get the full picture of this category. Some activity examples include working out, getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night, meal prepping, and going to regular checkups at your doctor’s office.
By creating healthier habits around exercise, healthy eating, and sleep you will be on your way to be your best physical self.
Social
-This category is all about improving your communication. In my opinion, this category is the most overlooked. However, social personal development is an important activity to practice.
Learning a new language, practicing your public speaking skills, and committing to doing more active listening are all activities that can help with social personal development.
Emotional
-Emotional personal development can be, well, emotional. Because of this, it can be easy to brush it off. I’ve done my share of doing this. I have realized that it wasn’t healthy behavior. The reality is that holding in your emotions, and brushing them off, only makes it worse when they finally do come out.
Why are personal development skills important?
Personal development skills are important because they allow you to create strategic and tactical plans for personal and professional growth towards your goals. It can be helpful to hone personal development skills so that you can naturally work them into your daily routines and use them to:
- Achieve personal and career goals
- Advance in your career
- Improve your strengths and talents
- Better yourself
- Find fulfillment and satisfaction
How to improve your personal development skills
You can enhance your personal development skills by taking classes, learning from the people around you, gaining new talents, and improving upon existing ones. Follow these guidelines to develop yourself personally:
- Overcome your fears. Fear can prevent you from growing and progressing. If you are afraid of public speaking, for instance, take a class or join a group that helps people become better public speakers. If you are afraid of taking risks, find a mentor who can help you make good decisions and build your confidence. Grow and learn by trying things you might not be comfortable doing. If you are shy, try starting a conversation or introducing yourself to new people at reception or workshop.
- Read. Reading can expand your knowledge and vocabulary and keep you informed. It can also stimulate your mind and can improve your critical thinking skills. Try setting a goal to read at least one educational or motivational article a day, or one book a month.
- Learn something new. Learn a new skill or topic, whether you do it yourself or sign up for a class. You might, for instance, take courses to learn another language, a new software program, or how to write creatively. Consider watching a webinar on professional development topics such as entrepreneurship or social media marketing.
- Ask for feedback. Approach a family member, friend, colleague, or manager, and ask them to give you feedback on a recent project or accomplishment. Use their positive comments as well as their constructive criticism to find ways to improve. Sometimes you need an outside, unbiased opinion to get a different perspective.
- Observe others. Watch and learn from the people who inspire you. This could be someone you know, such as a supervisor, family member, or public figure. Identify the qualities you admire in them, and try to replicate those in yourself.
- Network. By interacting with many types of people, you can learn new ideas and understand how to communicate and work with different personality types. You can also meet people and develop relationships that might help you in the future. Network through industry organizations and shared interest groups, or attend conferences and events on topics that interest you.
- Keep a journal. Writing in a journal every day or week can help you gain self-awareness and reflect on recent events, decisions, and conversations. You might keep a hand-written, private journal, or you might choose to share your thoughts and experiences by blogging. Use it to set and assess goals and progress.
- Meditate. Many people meditate to gain clarity and awareness and to reduce stress and anxiety. Meditation can help you focus on your self-development and goals in a healthy, positive and calm way. Even scheduling a break from work or quiet time for yourself can help you relax and focus.
- Get a mentor. If you need help identifying ways to build your self-development skills, talk to a mentor. This individual could be a manager, professor, someone you admire, or a professional personal growth mentor.
PASSION
What is Passion?
For me, as a student passion is a really important matter because when I follow my passion in life it makes my life easier because you are or I am doing the thing that I like. Like when you're getting your course for your study you need to follow your passion because that is where you belong.
When you do something that you don't like, you will no longer be interested in that thing because it is not for you and you will not fully commit to it because passion is a great way to decide what decision or what way are you gonna take.
When you follow your passion and really enjoy what you do, nothing will stop you from getting your work done. Because you are passionate about what you do, you feel unstoppable and nothing can get in the way of you achieving greatness.
Why is Passion so important?
Following your passion in life, you're happier overall. You're more sated with yourself and the decisions that you make, and not weighed down by the common stressors that come along with not doing what you love. Overall, you feel more uplifted and have far greater peace of mind.
Some Ideas or Some Reason for you to follow your Passion:
1. Life is too short
Life is short. It’s fragile and delicate. It’s here one moment, then gone the next. It’s never okay to just settle because we aren’t here for a long time. As humans, we have a shelf-life. And although our energy will live and carry on, we are only physically here for a brief period.
2. It gives you a sense of purpose
Following your passion in life gives you a sense of purpose to exist in this world. It also helps to instill something bigger and greater than just yourself. As long as what you’re pursuing moves beyond just selfish reasons and really attempts to contribute value to the world, it will help you fulfill something far greater than you could ever imagine.
3. You’ll be happier
When you follow your passion in life, you’re happier overall. You’re more sated with yourself and the decisions that you make, and not weighed down by the common stressors that come along with not doing what you love. Overall, you feel more uplifted and have a far greater peace of mind.
4. It won’t feel like work to you
Following your passion in life and doing what you love for a living won’t feel like work for you. You won’t open your eyes dreading another day at a life-sucking 9-to-5 job. You’ll wake up with energy and enthusiasm to start another day pursuing something that you really want to do rather than an endless array of things you’re dreading having to do.
5 . You’ll add more value to the world
Anytime you’re doing what you love to do in life, you’ll also desire to add value. It’s because you’re so passionate about doing it that you’ll throw yourself into it entirely and end up delivering far more to others than is expected of you. That comes naturally whenever you pursue whatever it is that you love doing.
6 . Your dreams will manifest into reality
When you follow your passion in life, slowly but surely, your dreams manifest into reality. When you’re doing what you love, you’re already realizing a dream, but it also helps you to not lose focus and drive overtime when it’s a deeply passionate project.
7. You naturally become more persistent
It’s easy to give up when we’re pursuing goals that aren’t as meaningful to us. But when we’re working towards something that we’re passionate about, it’s a natural occurrence to be more persistent. We don’t wake up thinking about giving up; we wake up thinking about how we can push forward, and naturally develop persistence in the process.
8. It will help to build character
By following your passion in life, you’ll build up character. It takes true strength to go after what is you truly love to do in life. And, naturally, you’ll reach new understandings about life, love, and the people that surround you, which will help to further foster and develop your character.
9. You’ll ignore the naysayers
It’s easy to allow negative people to get you down, especially when you’re pursuing your dreams. People will always try to chop you down and tell you how to think and to be realistic. Many of the most famous failures in life had to endure this very thing. But, when you love what you do, you’ll learn to ignore those naysayers and push past the negativity.
10. You will realize that the timing was never perfect in the past
When you begin to follow your passion and work to overcome the hurdles that might arise because you’re pursuing your dreams, you’ll come to the realization that the timing was and never would have been perfect to ever do what you love. You’ll wonder why you waited so long to pursue what had been burning deep down inside of you for so long.
11. You’ll be filled with a childlike sense of joy
When we’re children, we envision following our passion in life by becoming a firefighter, an astronaut, or a doctor. We think about ways we can help others or go on adventures of discovery. As we grow older, we become more realistic. But as you follow your dreams, you’re filled with that childlike sense of joy you felt long ago.
